Horseshoe Lake – Mammoth Lakes
Facebook Event

As a part of the Great Sierra River Clean-Up event happening throughout the Sierra region; Mammoth Lakes Recreation is partnering with Mammoth Lakes Trail System and Clean Up The Lake to host a stewardship event to help clean up the Lakes Basin area. You are invited to join us for this fun and rewarding half-day of stewardship around the Lakes Basin area.

Meet your local Trail Hosts at the Horseshoe Lake parking lot at 9 a.m. Bring your own lunch, seating (if desired) and water bottle. The day of work will be followed by dessert and fun giveaways for everyone! Please dress for trail work. Closed-toe shoes and long pants required; walk, bike ride or carpool if you can.

The staff from Clean Up The Lake will be conducting research dives in Lake Mary, Lake George, and Twin Lakes to document and remove trash from the lakes.  These research dives will provide them with data about litter accumulation hot spots, invasive species identification, algal bloom development, and identifying heavy-lift items that need to be removed in the future.

JUNE LAKE CLEAN-UP EVENT

Monday, September 12 – Friday, September 16, 2022
June Lake Area

Through research dives in 2021, Clean Up The Lake (CUTL) saw significant litter issues under the surface in the 0-25 foot zone of June Lake. The litter was comparable to the recreational litter seen by CUTL from areas such as Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe. It was concluded that CUTL’s approach to circumnavigated lake clean ups would be effective here.

The Clean Up The Lake team will be conducting a circumnavigated clean-up of June Lake throughout the week; removing all litter items from 0-50 pounds that are found in their path from 0-25 feet.

Join Mammoth Lakes Recreation and Sierra Trash Eliminators picking up trash on the surface while the Clean Up The Lake team get it all below the surface….the week long clean-up event is going to be amazing and we would love to have you join us!

Keep an eye on the Mammoth Lakes Recreation and Sierra Trash Eliminators Facebook and Instagram pages for pop-up clean-ups or head down to the lake anytime throughout the week to help out!
