RED’S MEADOW CONSTRUCTION PROJECT - UPDATES
If you are familiar with Mammoth Lakes and Red’s Meadow Valley, you are familiar with the massive road construction project entering its second work season. While there is never a convenient time for a project of this scale to take place, the improvements will make travel on the road significantly safer and more convenient.
When planning your visit to the area this year for day trips, camping, or backpacking, please visit the Inyo National Forest Project page for the most current details, schedule and closures.
(From the Inyo National Forest Project page) “Red’s Meadow Road is being reconstructed to greatly improve public access and traffic safety for all who visit the area, reduce likelihood of vehicular accidents and shorten emergency response times. The U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service (Devils Postpile National Monument - DEPO) appreciates your patience and understanding as the contractor works to reconstruct the road and stabilize the hillside over the next couple of years.
Currently, Red’s Meadow Road is closed to wheeled vehicles for the regular winter season with an anticipated seasonal opening date of June 7, 2024, depending on weather. There will be no construction delays while the road is open, however the mandatory ESTA Shuttle Bus is still required to access Red’s Meadow.”
