MEASURE U SPOTLIGHT: EASTERN SIERRA COMMUNITY CHORUS
Mammoth Lakes Recreation would like to welcome the Eastern Sierra Community Chorus to our family of Measure U Grant recipients! The Eastern Sierra Community Chorus (ESCC) brings together devoted, enthusiastic, talented singers to provide musical experiences that will entertain, uplift, enrich and educate the audience and members for the Eastern Sierra Community.
Founded in the 1970’s by Dr. Walter Buchanan and his wife Edith, the Chorus has since performed under the baton of Brian Schuldt of the Felici Trio, Mark Hatter, Vic Guder, Carl Gorham, Stephanie Everson and Chris Lanane. After the 2017 season of performances, the ESCC took a hiatus. Revived by Dr. Nancy Holland in December 2021, the Chorus participated in a Christmas Eve Service at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Keeping the momentum going, the chorus has performed a concert with the Mammoth High School Choir each Spring since 2022. Since 2022, the Chorus has also performed annually in the Mammoth Lakes July 4th celebration, Pops in the Park, in collaboration with the Eastern Sierra Community Orchestra. Coming this Winter (December 9 & 10, 2023), the ESCC will again perform with the Eastern Sierra Community Orchestra, including a combined work by Gustav Holst.
The ESCC is a 501c3 non-profit organization, dedicated to helping its members grow musically, by learning and performing a variety of superior quality choral music, both sacred and secular, and of diverse cultural and musical styles for the residents of Mono and Inyo counties. Rehearsals are on Thursday nights at the Mammoth High School Band Room, and once a month at the First United Methodist Church in Bishop.
The ESCC is always looking to welcome new members!
