MAMMOTH LAKES RECREATION LAUNCHES ADOPT-A-TRAIL

This week Mammoth Lakes Recreation unveiled its much anticipated Adopt-A-Trail program. Developed and managed in partnership with the Mammoth Lakes Trail System, the Adopt-A-Trail program works to maintain system trails, lakes, and trailheads in Mammoth Lakes and the surrounding communities.

Mammoth Lakes Recreation’s Adopt-A-Trail program allows trail enthusiasts to participate in two ways; as an “adopter” or as a “volunteer.” Adopters are asked to donate $1,500 per year to cover the costs of providing maintenance for their chosen trail segment. Volunteers are asked to contribute a minimum of twenty volunteer hours per year.

“Our community has needed a program like this for a long time,” says Matt McClain, executive director  for Mammoth Lakes Recreation. “our local businesses, service clubs and families have been looking for a way to support our trail system, and the Forest Service could certainly use the help.”

According to the Town of Mammoth Lakes Trail Coordinator, Joel Rathje, the timing for the launch of the program couldn’t be better.

“due to the risk of COVID-19 we’ve been unable to hold any of our Trail Days volunteer events this year.” says Rathje.  “With the Adopt-A-Trail program coming online, we now have a way to allow trail enthusiasts to plug in.
