OUTDOOR RECREATION HOSTS - TURNING ORDINARY INTO EXTRAORDINARY!
The Town of Mammoth Lakes Outdoor Recreation Host program started as a seasonal pilot program in Winter 2019/20, and is now a year-round program, staffed with between 5 and 15 hosts.
After a full summer of managing all aspects of the program, Outdoor Recreation Coordinator Gretcehn Haselbaur has compiled the Summer 2024 data that was collected in the field by Hosts. View the FULL REPORT HERE to see how people were recreating, where, and what they were interested in.
Outdoor Recreation Hosts in Mammoth Lakes play such an important role in enhancing the overall experience for visitors and locals alike. Hosts can offer local knowledge, safety tips, and education about local wildlife and responsible recreation. Hosts also collect valuable data to enhance and improve the recreation experience.
Look for Hosts at trailheads and parks and be sure to say “Hi!”. Often, Hosts know about lesser-known spots that aren't in guidebooks or on tourist maps. These could be peaceful, pristine locations for a picnic, hidden viewpoints, or secluded trails that give you a more authentic outdoor experience away from the crowds. In general, Hosts are tasked with creating a welcoming environment and being a friendly presence on the trails - turning the ordinary into extraordinary!
