NATIONAL TRAILS DAY KICKS OFF SUMMER OF STEWARDSHIP
This past Saturday we celebrated National Trails Day with the Mammoth Lakes Trail System, kicking off their Summer of Stewardship.
Joined by 65 volunteers at the Sherwins Trailhead, Town of Mammoth Lakes Office of Outdoor Recreation staff led the effort to beautify the area and increase its sustainability. We started the day with amazing bagels from Old New York Deli and a safety talk from Trails Program Manager Andrew Mulford. Assignments were given and the work began. Some headed off to the Mammoth Rock Trail to fill in channeling that had occurred from the spring run-off, some began sanding and staining the trail signs, and others made their way up the hill to clear snow off the trails, and yet another group grabbed re-useable trash bags and scoured the area for litter. Rewarded back at the trailhead with ice cold Athletic Brewing and Guayaki Yerba Mate beverages, volunteers and staff alike were happy!
But wait – that’s not all – it gets even better! Continuing to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Mammoth Lakes Trails System, Mammoth Brewing Company brewed a limited edition “Pack It Out Pilsner”, released on National Trails Day! We regrouped at the MBC Tasting Room for fun times with friends and a celebratory toast.
Check out the special t-shirt and bandana designed for the occasion in the MLR Store, on sale for only $10 in honor of the 10th Anniversary!
The next big event with the Mammoth Lakes Trails System isn’t until September, but you can volunteer all Summer long with the Trail Crew or as a Trail or Water Host. Visit the MLTS Summer of Stewardship page to sign up!
Thank you again to everyone who came out and made this event a success! Go Trails!
