ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Community Multi-Use Facilities project was developed from the Town’s intent to create a ‘recreation destination’ that the entire community of Mammoth Lakes will actively enjoy, value and ultimately be proud to call their Park. The guiding principle builds from the “A Town within a Park” concept that will deliver local residents and visitors high-quality complementary recreation facilities at Mammoth Creek Park.
The proposed facility is comprised of four major components:
Much needed space and associated amenities to satisfy the diverse and growing needs of the community. With high ceilings, a durable cushioned floor, ample storage, a family restroom, complimentary Wi-Fi, with audio-visual components, the Community Center will be a highly valued and heavily utilized public amenity
Natural Play Area
The natural play area incorporates a large grass area for open play, bordered by tree-lined and winding pathways adjacent to gurgling Mammoth Creek. The natural play area is supported by seasonal restrooms and several picnic tables with multi-use paths (MUPS) providing access throughout the natural play area and the extensive Mammoth Lakes Trail System.
Olympic Sized Ice Rink
Our Olympic-sized ice rink will be partially open on two sides, allowing for a unique, winter outdoor skating and curling experience with expansive protection from the sun and harsh winter elements. In summer, the rink will be converted to the RecZone for drop-in, league play, tournaments, special events and will be the hub for Parks and Recreation Department summer camps and programs.
Officially opened on July 4, 2018, the Community Multi-Use Facilities Project includes a 7,700 square foot National Demonstration Site inclusive playground. It is the only truly inclusive playground in the Eastern Sierra that provides for the physical, social-emotional, sensory, cognitive, and communicative benefits of play for all.
“Alone we can do so little; Together we can do so much.”
“The staff is wonderful and their communication with us is great”
“It is a safe and clean place with nice, caring people and for once I don’t have to constantly worry.”
