ABOUT THE PROGRAM
For generations, monofilament fishing line has been an essential part of many fisherman’s tackle box. Unfortunately, the same attributes that make monofilament an ideal choice for fishing line — high tensile strength, low visibility, and durability — also makes it a serious threat to the environment.
Birds, reptiles and other wildlife can easily become entangled; causing starvation, amputation, and death. Ingestion is also a serious threat. Moreover, fishing line never truly bio-degrades. Instead it breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces, infiltrating the ecosystem and diminishing local water quality. Tangle Free Waters is a program designed to reduce and remove monofilament fishing line from Eastern Sierra waterways and keep it out of landfills by means of recycling.
Your contribution to this effort, either as an adopter or volunteer, is vital for sustaining our unique landscape now and for future generations.
FIND A TANGLE FREE WATERS STATION
GET INVOLVED WITH THE TANGLE FREE WATERS PROGRAM
SPONSOR
Your initial commitment of $499 allows Mammoth Lakes Recreation to construct and install one Tangle Free Waters station. Your adoption includes the station and signage, any repairs, and all costs to send the recovered line off for recycling.
VOLUNTEER
Your volunteer commitment of weekly servicing for your chosen Tangle Free Waters station will ensure that our facilities are in good working order, and that deposited line is collected in a timely manner and sent off for recycling.
DONATE SUPPLIES
Whenever possible, MLR provides volunteers with the tools to make collecting line as easy and efficient as possible. Please reach out to us if you are able to assist with a donation.
REGIONAL VOLUNTEER
