This past month has moved along at a pretty good pace with all of the projects that MLR has been working through! The Mammoth Creek Park West Project, the complimentary multi-use facility and community center, continues to be a priority project as the Town of Mammoth Lakes staff works on the preferred footprint on the parcel and the programming elements for the facility. All very exciting stuff! Our team is working on the associated business plan and the project prospectus as we begin to frame a capitol campaign to raise funds for the project. We had an enthusiastic response from the LA Kings in a visit to their facilities last week about the design, construction and programming of the project.
This past weekend a collaborative including Mammoth Lakes Trails and Public Access foundation, the Town of Mammoth Lakes and MLR hosted the first annual Mammoth Lakes Winter Recreation Summit. The purpose of the summit was to engage the community and identify how to enhance recreation as an economic driver in the region, and not just Mammoth Lakes. The team will analyze the collected information to make policy recommendations and to align budget as we plan for the next fiscal year. The Colorado Director of Outdoor Recreation is pictured to the right and was our key note speaker on Friday night. We also want to thank all of the sponsors of the event which are listed on our donation page – thank you!
And most exciting is the challenge cost share agreement between the Inyo National Forest and the Town of Mammoth Lakes that will allow our Trails Coordinator, Joel Rathje, to tackle a trails maintenance program this summer. We are all anxious to get some work done on the ground that the user groups can be proud of!
In the meantime, we are working on the identification of a parcel for an Outdoor Performing Arts Center to host a number of events as we look forward to the summer of 2017.
